NYSC Agrees To NANS' Demand, Slashes Online
Registration Fee To N2500
****
After series of discussions with the Director-
General of NYSC, Brigadier General Sulaiman
Kazaure, the management has agreed to NANS'
demand to further slash the online registration fee
for prospective corp members who chose to
process their mobilization online rather than the
traditional institution based processing.
NANS President, Comr. Aruna Kadiri had proposed a
further slash of the online internet registration
charges to N2500 from N3000.
Starting from Batch B, the online registration
charges will now be N2500, DG Kazaure confirmed.
The NANS intervention according to its President
becomes necessary in view of the harsh economic
realities in the country.
The DG assured the NANS President that the
National Youth Service Corps under his leadership is
committed to giving priority to corp members'
welfare.
He has also assured that the orientation course
(camp) for Stream II Batch-A will begins Tuesday
July 26th, 2017.
“Stream II Batch-A prospective corp members
should get ready to hit their respective orientation
camp 26th July,” he reiterated.
NANS President in his vote of thanks, commended
the DG for the good works which is aimed at
sustaining the scheme and making it better.
Lastly, he urged members to be good ambassadors
of their institutions and parents, assuring that NANS
under his watch will continue to advocate for what's
in their best interest(s).

NANS Frowns At Invasion of UNIABUJA By Herdsmen
***
Fulani herdsmen have converted the academic and residential areas of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) into a grazing field for their cattle, posing a great security and health threats to Nigerian students and staff of the institution.
According to speculations, the herdsmen were brought into the university purposely by the Federal government when they had clashes with natives of the Federal Capital. When approached on the issue, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Mal. Muhammad Bello, promised to relocate them to Pai, a community in FCT.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) frown at this ugly development and call on the federal government to as a matter of urgency relocate the herdsmen and their cattle from the university campus. Moreover, UNIABUJA is a citadel of learning for students and not a grazing reserve for cattle.
NANS under the stewardship of President Aruna Kadiri wouldn't want a situation where the incessant herdsmen/farmers would now turn to herdsmen/students clashes. Therefore, we urge the FCT minister to act swiftly on the matter. The life of every Nigerian student to us is a priceless jewel.
We have already made our position clear at the just concluded security summit that “cattle ranching” is the only solution to the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers which has claimed several lives and properties worth millions of naira.
We want to once again call on the Federal Government to enact a legislation that would effectively back up ranching so as to save lives and protect farms from destruction by cattle.
Honourable Minister, relocate the herdsmen and their cattle from our campus now. Our members are no longer comfortable with them, NANS reiterates. Thank you.
