Dino's Certificate Scandal: NANS Frowns Against ABU-VC Summoning- Dio Oghale Emeka Rex(SAP,SANS, MOFR) Reporting from Campus Reporter Media

Dino's Certificate Scandal: NANS Frowns Against ABU-VC Summoning

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has frowned against the summoning of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Garba by the Nigerian Senate over the certificate scandal allegation levelled against Sen. Dino Melaye.
According to media reports, The Senate has summoned the Vice Chancellor of the aforementioned citadel of learning to appear before it Monday March 27, 2017 and explain his own side of the story.
Recall that Senator Dino (APC-Kogi West), has been embroiled in a certificate scandal after reports from Sahara Reporters indicated that although he attended ABU, but he did not graduate.
Reacting to the summon, the apex students condemns it in totality, calling on the Senate to “be responsible enough to give us dividends of democracy”.
“NANS frowns against the summoning of Prof. Ibrahim Garba, the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (ABU). Rather than summoning the Vice-Chancellor, why not Dino Melaye provides his certificate and Senate takes it to the university for verification,” the President of NANS, Comr. Aruna Kadiri stated.
With this development, Kadiri explained that “it therefore means if 200 graduands have issue with certificate, the banks, ministries, multinationals and even a married man that doubts the authenticity of his wife's certificate will also summon the Vice-Chancellor to his house for questioning”.
The NANS President who frowned at the summon describing it “frivolities” noted that the country was enmeshed in enough economic troubles and needed to focus on remedies.
“The Nigerian Senate should be responsible enough to give us dividends of democracy. We say no to the summoning of the Vice-Chancellor for frivolities,” he added.

Stop creating problems in the students fold – NANS warns Udom’s aide

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone B has condemned the recent inauguration of a supposed new NANS/JCC executive in Akwa Ibom State, describing it as illegal.
In a telephone chat with this reporter, the Zone B Coordinator of NANS, Comrade Pedro Obi, said the process which produced a certain Diana Abasi Robinson as the purported Chairman of the body in Akwa Ibom State lacks merit, adding that Comrade Akwaowo Clifford Ukpong is the bonafide NANS/JCC CHAIRMAN in the state.
“Why should somebody wake up one day to setup such a parallel exco without the consent of NANS? We learnt that the exercise was boycotted by NANS Senators in the state, therefore NANS cannot give its blessing to such illegality. As a matter of fact, the masterminds of this illegality are sowing seeds of discord in the students community in that state.

Reacting to rife claims that the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Student Affairs, Comrade Otobong Akpan, is the mastermind of the recent inauguration, Comrade Pedro Obi noted thus: “NANS is not an appendage of government, and this is to send a clear message to anyone who is using his or her appointment in government to mastermind any act of illegality in NANS. We are tired of these acts by the impostors and we will take disciplinary measures to curb it.”

Speaking on the tenureship of Comrade Clifford, Comrade Pedro disclosed that Clifford’s tenure runs concurrently with his own, and declared that he (Clifford) will relinquish power at the expiration of his tenure after which NANS convention would be hold to ratify executive committees in the zone.

He sued for peace in NANS and called on all stakeholders to always toe the path to peace.
In a release issued by the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)/Joint Campus Committee (JCC) in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Udom Emmanuel was implored to call Comrade Otobong Akpan to order or risk losing the trust and support from the students community.
Part of the release reads: “The students community in Akwa Ibom State has known no peace since Comrade Otobong Akpan came on board as aide in charge of Student Affairs. It has been a story of impunity meted on students.
Space won’t contain a chronicle of Aquilla’s sins against us.
“…to cap it all, she has sponsored a so-called inauguration of a factional NANS executive in the state. The move has been condemned by the NANS leadership.
Your Excellency, call your SA to order because we can no longer tolerate her mad dog antics. Failure to comply with our humble directive will compel us to seek viable means to rectify the situation. To say that she has foisted a tyrannical rule on the students is an understatement…”
“Comrade Aquila seems to be playing the crisis script of the PDP in the students’ community and we say no to her effort to factionalize NANS. This is not PDP where Markafi and Sheriff are locked in a brutal war of who becomes what. So, we are imploring her not to Sheriff or Makarfi us in the students community.
“Having displayed incompetence and gross abuse of the privilege to represent us in government, Aquila must be relieved of her duties before she commits worse atrocities. A stitch in time saves nine!

Students With Less Than 0.5 CGPA, Should Be Expelled, Buhari Orders VCs- Dio Oghale Emeka Rex Reporting from Campus Reporter Media

Students With Less Than 0.5
CGPA, Should Be Expelled, Buhari
Orders VCs
President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday gave
vice chancellors a marching order to expel
students with less than 0.5 Cumulative Grade
Point Average (CGPA) from next academic
session. Such students, he said, are unserious
with school and therefore should not be
accommodated any longer in higher institutions.
The President cautioned governing councils
and managements of universities against
muzzle-flexing and ego-tripping, which he
said had thrown affected universities into
avoidable crises. Buhari spoke at the 31st
convocation of the University of Port Harcourt
(UNIPORT) . He further assured his
administration was committed to the 2009
agreement entered into with the Academic
Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
This, he noted, led to the recent setting up of
a committee to renegotiate the contentious
agreement. Buhari, who was represented by
the Minister of State for Education, Prof.
Anthony Onwuka, told vice-chancellors and
their managements to practice transparency,
accountability, fairness and ensure discipline.
He said: “We must a stop to continue
housing adventurers, who have no business
remaining in the universities beyond the
time specified for their studies in the
universities. In that wise, it is being
proposed that at the end of this academic
year, any student with less than 0.5
CGPA should cease to be a student of the
university and should be shown the way out.
The universities must continue to have
people who are serious in what they have
come to do in school. If you have less than
0.5 in your CGPA, you are out. You are out
for good so that the space will be left for
those who have come to do serious
business”.
On governing council, he charged them to
avoid unnecessary muzzle-flexing and ego-
tripping that throw affected universities into
avoidable crises.
They must look after the welfare of staff and
students and ensure proper development of
their universities.
On the contentious 2009 agreement with
ASUU, Buhari pleaded with the lecturers to
give peace a chance, by coming to the
negotiation table in the best interest of
higher education. He reassured ASUU and
other unions that government was
committed to quality education in the
universities and other layers of the education
sector, including the welfare of staff in the
system.
