Campus Reporter Media----NANS Frowns At Invasion of UNIABUJA By Herdsmen ***

NANS Frowns At Invasion of UNIABUJA By Herdsmen
Fulani herdsmen have converted the academic and residential areas of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) into a grazing field for their cattle, posing a great security and health threats to Nigerian students and staff of the institution.
According to speculations, the herdsmen were brought into the university purposely by the Federal government when they had clashes with natives of the Federal Capital. When approached on the issue, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Mal. Muhammad Bello, promised to relocate them to Pai, a community in FCT.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) frown at this ugly development and call on the federal government to as a matter of urgency relocate the herdsmen and their cattle from the university campus. Moreover, UNIABUJA is a citadel of learning for students and not a grazing reserve for cattle.
NANS under the stewardship of President Aruna Kadiri wouldn't want a situation where the incessant herdsmen/farmers would now turn to herdsmen/students clashes. Therefore, we urge the FCT minister to act swiftly on the matter. The life of every Nigerian student to us is a priceless jewel.
We have already made our position clear at the just concluded security summit that “cattle ranching” is the only solution to the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers which has claimed several lives and properties worth millions of naira.
We want to once again call on the Federal Government to enact a legislation that would effectively back up ranching so as to save lives and protect farms from destruction by cattle.
Honourable Minister, relocate the herdsmen and their cattle from our campus now. Our members are no longer comfortable with them, NANS reiterates. Thank you.

Comr kadiri Aruna
NANS President
