BEING THE COMMUNIQUÉ OF THE SENATE MEETING AND PRE-CONVENTION OF NANS ZONE D HELD AT GATEWAY POLYTECHNIC, SAAPADE,OGUN STATE ON SUNDAY, 23RD JULY , 2017.

The senate meeting started with an opening prayer led by a senator from Ondo axis after which the national anthem and aluta gyration was led by Com. Aristotle from Oyo axis which took about 15mins.

The NANS Zone D coordinator, Com. Okikiola Ogunsola took his time to recognized senators present from each axis of the zone, he as well recognized the JCC chairmen present, zonal and national executives and all stakeholders present. In the same vein, he gave a short speech to address the efforts of the zone in settling some issues affecting some institutions in the zone.

STATE OF THE CAMPUS
The first state of the campus report came from the Oyo state JCC chairman, Com. Toheeb Niniola, he spoke about the peaceful coexistence on all campus in the state except for LAUTECH and pointed out all efforts been made by his administration. He as  spoke about the on going JCC Oyo NANS football competition betweens the tertiary institutions and advised other states to follow suit. The chairman of Ondo axis Com. Atolusi Damilola reported a well organized students structure in the state, insinuating that all is well with the state. He raised an observation on the forth coming convention of the Ondo axis, sighting the timing so as not to obstruct that of the zone. The Osun state chairman Com. Miftan Saheed gave his own reports sighting the nonchalant attitude of the state government towards education and the efforts his administration has made to engage the state government, he as well made mention of the LAUTECH crisis. The Ogun state chairman Com. Balogun Olawale started his reports by appreciating all his senators for their unrelenting corporations in making his job easy as the chairman of the axis, he commended the Ogun State governor for transforming the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) into a B.Sc awarding institution, Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology and lastly he salute the Zone D coordinator for his unflinching supports. Lastly was the Lagos axis chairman, Com. Moses Samson who spoke about some issues in some institutions in his axis, he sighted that of University of Lagos and Yaba College of Technology's student's union. He made the gathering understand that with the efforts of his administration, there is greenlight on the issue of Yaba College of Technology issue.

STATE OF THE NATION
The coordinator gave some insight on the present state of the nation, he laid emphasis on the continuous and unwarranted agitation by the IPOB for a Biafra nation and the 'stay off our territories' threat been given by a group of northern youths. He made a public condemnation of both agitation by both groups. He took his time to explain why Nigeria should and must remain one as a nation, he emphasized the role of every Nigerian to build this nation and the negative effects of disintegration, he added that no tribe or group should feel marginalized. He further stated that the federal government should ensure there is prompt and adequate punishments for all those threatening the peace and stability of Nigeria as a nation.

He urged all Nigeria students to continuously advocate for better governance and accountability on the part of our leaders. In his submissions, he gave a nod to the opinion of some Nigerian on Restructuring Nigeria adding that the system of governance being operated in Nigeria is outdated, hence restructuring Nigeria will pave way for new and relevant ideas to move the nation forward faster. He as well clamored for an all inclusive youth involvement in governance.

In conclusion, he urge Nigeria students and Nigerians at large to keep praying for the quick recovery and return of President Muhammad Buhari and continuous supports for the Ag. President, Prof. Yemi Oshibajo, adding that the Ag. President has indeed been proactive in all sphere.

Reacting to the laid down contributions of the coordinator were Com. Oladoye Matthew from Adekunle Ajasin University (Ondo) stating that the federal government should ensure all corrupt Nigerians are severely dealt with publicly including sentence to jail as this will serve as lesson to other intending to plunge into the acts of corruption. Next was Com. Adeyemi Samson from Olabisi Onabanjo University (Ogun), in his reaction, he vigorously stated that the fall in governance in Nigeria is as a result of non involvement of the youth in governance adding that the same sets of people or families have been ruling Nigeria since inception till date. Enough is enough he chanted for about fives times, he therefore urge all students, youths to dust their shoes and get ready for a new phase and to as well stand up to claim what belongs to us. He further implore youths/students to stop being a "use and dump tool" for politicians who kept their wards in good schools abroad for quality education and safety, tutoring them to take over governance in the nearest future. No! No!! No!!! He chanted again. Next was Com. Samson from College of Health and Science, Eleyele, Ibadan, Oyo, in his own opinion, he gave support to the earlier established restructuring submissions by the coordinator adding that Nigeria is long overdue to be restructured and it should be considered as a matter of urgency.

PRE-CONVENTION DELIBERATION
The coordinator gave a brief enlightenment on the procedures of the convention stating that the most important things to be quickly considered are dates, venue, security and logistics. He further explained that the convention will be held on a campus in any chosen state promising that the transition process will be smooth. Thereafter he opened the floor to senators to move motion to propose dates and venues.

In reaction to the above, Com. Azeez representing University of Ibadan, Oyo State moved a motion that the Zone D convention should be held on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th of August, 2017 at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Osun State, his motion was seconded by Com. Adeyemi Samson who represented Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State. Com. Bobo from Osun State threw weight to support the already established motion. A comrade from Lagos raised an observation as regards the already established motion but got no 'seconder' for his observation, hence the sitting agreed on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th of August, 2017 as the convention date and Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Osun State as the venue of the convention.

CLOSING REMARK The coordinator appreciated all senator, JCC chairmen, zonal executives, national executives, stakeholders and all observers for their corporation and presence and bid them all safe journey to their respective states. He also appreciated the management of the host institution, Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State and all security operatives present.

CLOSING PRAYER
The closing prayer was led by Com. Awodele Samuel, the NANS Zone D PRO.
