NANS President Meets UJ SUG, Management Over Tuition Hike Face-off

Determined to safeguard the interest of Nigerian students, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comr. Aruna Kadiri, has on Sunday April 09 met with the Students Union Government (SUG) of University of Jos and its management over tuition increment face-off.
Recall that following the hike of tuition by management of the aforementioned citadel of learning, the President Sydney Daman led SUG which led several protests against the increment were dissolved. In its place, a 5-man caretaker committee chaired by the speaker of the students parliament was constituted.
President Kadiri who frowned at the development called on the management to immediately and unconditionally reinstate the Students Union Government (SUG), warning that his administration cannot fold its arms and watch while the interest of Nigerian students is at stake.
Meeting with the UniJos Vice-chancellor, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, NANS insist on their reinstatement, which according to the host “has been agreed upon”.
“The Students Union Government (SUG) has been called back and the issue of the school fees, processes are ongoing to reducing it,” VC Maimako stated.
Meanwhile, the institution registrar, Mr Monday Danjem on Thursday 06 April, 2017 said: “a downward review was considered”.
In a statement signed by him, it stated that; “all 100level and 200level students for 2016/2017 session are to pay the sum of N45,000 graduation while 300 level and above are to pay N37,400 until graduation. But these is subject to further circular from the federal government”.
Earlier, President Kadiri commended the Daman-led SUG for their doggedness and uncompromising stance in defending the interest of students, adding that “he will continue to work hand-in-hand with Students’ Union Governments which is the fulcrum of his administration in the bid to ensure that all campuses are adequately unionized.
Speaking further, he reiterated his administration commitment to end Caretaker Students’ Unions anywhere they exist in our Universities.
President Kadiri was accompanied by Comr. Felix Attah, VP Special Duties of NANS, and other notable figures of the association in Plateau state axis. “An injury to one is an injury to all”. Viva Aluta!
