Alutanews was on ground to witness the tremendous drama that took place at the main campus of the University of Jos on Tuesday, as the striking members of the Non-academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), UniJos Branch, took their ongoing one-week warning strike to another level by placing the school under a total lock-down.
All the entrance gates were locked up both in main campus in Bauchi Ring Road
and the permanent site along feringadar market. Department of geology, big lecture halls in sky bank hall and also Law Faculty in Perm Site were locked, too. Only the exit gates were open for students and staff who had already gotten into the school premises before the lock-down. The school management and students seemed helpless in face of this protest action, as the NASU members were determined to drive their points home. Numerous people who had arrived the school gate for one transaction or the other within the school premises found themselves stranded. The strike action was embarked on nationwide by members of the union over some unsettled welfare issues.
