PAADC1.0 GRAND FINALE GOES OUT WITH A BANG

 

 

 

The grand finale of the Professor Ayodele Awojobi Design Competition(PAADC) was held at the J.F Ade Ajayi Auditorium (formerly Main Auditorium) in the University of Lagos on July 15, 2017. The competition which is the brain child of University of Lagos Engineering Society(ULES) brought together teams from over 40 Nigerian Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.
PAADC is an initiative of the University of Lagos Engineering Society with the sole aim of driving ingenuity and self-reliance in Nigerian technology. According to members of the planning committee we spoke with, after taking a look at the deplorable state of industry and innovation in Nigeria, the severity of dependence on importation deeply troubled some of the founders who later made up the committee. This deep upset directed at the status quo birthed the Professor Ayodele Awojobi Design Competition which is to challenge the Nigerian youth to introspect and come up with ingenious solution to indigenous problems i.e. solving Nigerian problems by using Science and Technology simply put.

26 teams made it past the first shortlisting stage which was judged by a team of lecturers. The second round which was based on 30% votes by members of the public and 70% by the judges from which 7 teams proceeded to the final instead of five due to ties amongst some teams:

1) Team ECO UNILAG

2) Team SUCCESS FUTMINNA & Team PPG Lautech (tied on scores)

3) Team Biorays UNILAG

4) Team Mufasa Lautech

5) Team Alpha Excel UI and Team Cumesa Covenant (tied on scores)
After presentations by each team, they were totally grilled by the panel of Judges on their innovations, Team Mufasa from LAUTECH eventually emerged the winners of the design competition with their design for an Ultrasonic Reversing Guild and won the 1st Prize of Two hundred thousand naira(#200,000), while Team ECO Unilag were the 1st runner up with their design and won the prize of one hundred thousand naira(#150,000) and Team PPG also from Lautech came in as second runner up and won a prize of hundred thousand naira(#100,000).

Distinguished guests at the event included Managing Director of Siemens Mrs Onyeche Tifashe, Group head IT Oando, Mr. Idris Musa ,Deans of faculties and many other more.
