OAU: Students shun VC’s town-hall meeting, as he promises academic stability

The acting Vice Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, held a town hall meeting with the students on the evening of Tuesday January 17, 2017 by at Amphi threater. The meeting had in attendance provost of post graduate college and the dean of the faculty of Agricultural science and technology. However many deans of faculties were absent at the meeting. The acting V.C of the university, Prof. Anthony Elujoba, complained of low turn out of the students at the meeting which he claimed was due to late announcement of the meeting. he stated that the students at the meeting were just one percent of the total number of students in the school, and cannot be compared to previous meetings held in the school.
“Therefore, a proper town-hall meeting date that will have in attendance a large percentage of students  and all deans of faculties shall be announce very soon”, Prof. Elujoba said. The acting VC used the occasion to expressed his gratitude to the students. ” I thank you all  for your prayers, Dedication, Commitment and cooperation towards the peace on campus and more importantly for your seriousness of purpose to studies”,  he emphasized. The acting VC reiterated the importance of peace on campus, which he said had stopped incessant closure of the school as frequently experience during the administration of former VC, Prof. Tale Omole. The acting VC explained to the students the management’s plan to ensure that students graduate at appropriate time. He said, “an atmosphere where there is peace and tranquility will guarantee stable academic calendar that enhanceces smooth running of academic activities” And he further added, “we shall provide opportunity to students to contribute their own ideas towards the progress of the school”.
