LASU BREAKS PROTOCOL, SET TO HONOUR DANGOTE, ALAKIJA NEXT WEEK

Afteryears of suspending honorary awards to individuals, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo is set to confer same to the trio of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija and Chief Adebutu, Kessington at her 21st convocation ceremony schedule to hold on 23rd , March 2017.

The event will also see a total of 36,489 students graduate from diploma, first and higher degrees programmes. Briefing journalists on the activities to mark the convocation, LASU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof.

Olanrewaju Fagbohun, said that the awards were necessitated to honour deserving individuals who contribution was not only felt in the school, but also by the society at large. His words, “ We don’t give honorary awards to money bags.

But to individuals whose contributions are for the benefits and betterment of the society. Hence after submission of names and rigorous screening by the school’s Senate, these three distinguished individuals will be honoured.

Continuing , the VC said, “ While Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Mrs Folorunsho Alakija will be conferred with honorary doctorate degree of business(Hon. D.B); and honorary doctorate degree of arts and humane letters(D.A.H), respectively.

Chief Adebutu Kessington, will receive honorary degree of science-communication (Hon.D.Sc). Prof. Fagbohun who assured the 36, 489 prospective graduands of their ready certificates, said the institution will for the first time give the award of Distinguished Professor, she instituted to Prof.

Peter Okebukola for his contribution in the education sector. The VC also reiterated the school gesture to students in the areas of creating assistance for vocational skills; in scholarship and also in community training.

His words, “ Aside programmes set up to assist our students in various capacities. Our collaboration with Ford foundation will assist students in the areas of scholarship, community service and in training for the promotion of the culture of learning in the institution.” added LASU’s helmsman.
